Color Poetry

Are you looking for a quick, colorful poetry activity that your students will love? This is how I used free paint color charts from our local paint store and turned them into a beautiful bulletin board.

1. Pick up tons of paint color charts in as many bright colors as you can find.
2. Read the names of the paints to your students. This will build excitement.
3. Have the students chose a chart that peaks their interest.
4. Have them read the color names and make a list of words that they associate with the words. Then, have them make lists of items that are the color represented on their chart. They can use the internet to get ideas.
5. Now, they turn these words into lines of poetry.
6. They will write their first draft on paper or on their computer. They must use spellcheck and have it checked by a classmate before publishing on their paint chart.
7. Share their masterpieces.
8. Finally, publish their creations on bright colored bulletin board paper.
